Gobi Bear

Listed as Critically endangered by the IUCN, the Gobi Bear (Ursus arctos gobiensis) population is extremely small; some estimates place their population at 30 individual bears left.

The Gobi Bear is a subspecies of the Brown Bear. Where Brown Bear species typically have a strong, compact frame, the Gobi Bear differs from its cousins with longer limbs and a shorter coat, usually a light brown with gold coloration.

Gobi Bear Habitat

The Gobi Bear calls the Mongolian Gobi Desert their home. The Gobi Desert covers north and northwestern China, and southern Mongolia, but the Gobi Bear is only found on the Mongolian side. Gobi Bears stay near water sources, such as ponds or streams, and around rocky or hilly terrain.
