Syrian Brown Bear
The omnivorous Syrian Brown Bear (Ursus arctos syriacus) is one of the smaller subspecies of Brown Bears. The Syrian Black Bear eats a very wide variety of foods, including fruits, grasses, roots and meat.

While the population of the Syrian Brown Bear has been declining over recent history, this subspecies of Brown Bear covers a large region of the western Asian continent. The population decline of the Syrian Brown Bear has been due to poaching and destruction of their natural habitat. Countries where Syrian Black Bears live include Pakistan, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran and Israel.
